LOIS (BAUMERT) WOODARD

LOIS (BAUMERT) WOODARD, died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at home in Grand Rapids, Mich. She was born March 30, 1924 at RR # 1, Monroeville, Allen County, Ind., a daughter of Oscar M. and Chloe (Grant) Baumert. She attended the Ruch Elementary school where eight grades where housed in the one room building. She was advanced to the second grade at midterm. She loved reading and rode the bike 1 1/2 miles several times during summer recess to pick up library books. She was a contestant three times in the Allen County Spelling Bee. Following graduation at Woodburn High School in 1941, she entered Skadrons School of Business in Fort Wayne studying secretarial subjects including short hand. On the job training began at Wolf & Dessauer department store and that soon led to a full time job. Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, she joined the work force at G.E. in 1942. She and Ivan Woodard were married April 6, 1947 at St. James Lutheran Church in Payne, Paulding County, Ohio. Priorities changed to family life in 1948. She is survived by her husband of 65 years and their three children, Ben (Janet) in Indianapolis, Philip (Carol) of Fairbanks, Alaska and Myra Nueman (William) of Grand Rapids. , Mich.; sister, Marceile Teeple of Fort Wayne; and Ray (Janet) of Port Charlotte, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great -grandchildren. Funeral service is 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, 582 Lamoreaux Dr. NW, Comstock Park, Mich. 49321, with the Pastor Julie Schneider-Thomas officiating.
