MAURINE ELLEN LEAS HINES, 89, of Fort Wayne and Syracuse, died on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012.She was the daughter of Fay and Marguerite Leas. Upon graduation from South Side High School in 1941, she attended Ferry Hall Prep School in Lake Forest, Ill. She then transferred to Indiana University where she studied art and design and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She married the love of her life, Robert L. Hines (they met in kindergarten) on July 24, 1943. They had five children and in 1954 Maurine and Bob were two of the original founders of Johnny Appleseed School (now called Easter Seals Arc of Fort Wayne) so their son Bobby would have a place to go to school and learn. She was also an over 50 year member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed spending time in Florida and her home at Lake Wawasee where she loved taking boat rides around the lake with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed art, fashion, interior design, gardening, reading and playing Bridge. She spent her whole life caring for others. "She will be remembered forever for her love and dedication to her husband and children." Surviving are her daughters, Susan (Gary) Muncy of Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., Janice (Joe) Sopata of Fairfield, Conn. and Barbara Hines of Naples, Fla.; son, Scott (Diane) Hines of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren, Julie Goodwin of Fort Wayne, Jason (Patty) Clancy of Scottsburg, Ind., Leia Sopata of London, England, Tom Sopata of Washington D.C., Marc Raff of Naples, Fla., Chelsea, Chloe, and Chase Hines, all of Fort Wayne; and five great-grandchildren, Summer Goodwin of Fort Wayne, Kady and Kody Clancy of Scottsburg, Ind., and Brooklyn and Brayden Hines of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Honorable Robert L. Hines; son, Robert L. "Bobby" Hines Jr.; sister, Barbara Ann Gately; and brother, Blaine Leas. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church McMillen Chapel, 300 W.
