NEOMA IRENE COLPITTS

NEOMA IRENE COLPITTS, 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan, 15, 2013, at Orchard Creek Assisted Living, Traverse City, Mich. with her daughter and son-in-law at her side. Born Nov. 3, 1917, in Flint, Mich., she earned her associates degree from Flint Junior College in 1937, B.A. from North Central College 1939. On June, 14, 1941, she married A. Hunter Colpitts. She was a Kindergarten teacher in Flint, Mich., a teacher of grades first and second in Mouton, Ohio, and a substitute teacher in the Wapakoneta, Ohio Public Schools. She was a former member of Crescent Avenue United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne, and also served as a second grade Sunday school teacher. She was an associate member of High Street United Methodist Church, Muncie, Ind. and was actively involved in the aftermath of the High Street Church explosion in 1978. Neoma was supporting member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse, Ind. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter, E.J. As Hunter's loyal partner, Neoma lovingly embraced the many years of duties, responsibilities, joys and pleasures of the role of "The Minister's Wife". Prior to Neoma's move to Traverse City, she enjoyed many years as a property owner in the wonderful community of Oakwood Park, on Lake Wawasee. Neoma, Hunter, her family and friends made many happy memories there in their beloved little red cedar log cabin that they had built on the water. Later they constructed their second home next to the cottage and lived contently there full time after their retirement. Surviving are her son, Craig Harrison (s.o. Faith) Colpitts of Ballston Spa, NY.; daughter, Sarah Jane (Steve) Hall of Traverse City, Mich.; brother, James (Esther) DeMott of Peoria, Ariz.; sisters, Pauline Ballou of Kalkaska, Mich. and Thelma (David) McKellar of Grand Blanc, Mich.; grandchildren, Benjamin (Shelli) Finfrock of Grawn, Mich., Katherine Finfrock of Traverse City, Mich. Carrie Colpitts of Chicago, Ill., Matthew Colpitts of Fort Wayne, Leah Masters of Cedar, Mich., and James Hall of Fife Lake, Mich.; great-granddaughter, Rebekah Hlavka of Grawn, Mich. brother-in-law, Donald Vogelsberg of Chelsea, Mich.; and many specially loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Lona DeMott; husband, Dr. Rev. A. Hunter Colpitts, in 1994; sister, Juanie Vogelsberg; brother-in-law, Kenneth Ballou; and nephew, Kenneth "Chip" Ballou. Service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Syracuse Calvary United Methodist Church, 801 South Huntington St. (Rt. 13), with a calling two hours prior. The Rev. Dale Mendenhall and the Rev. David Herr officiating. Interment is 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions suggested to W.A.C.F. (Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation), PO Box 548, Syracuse, IN; The Colpitts Ministerial Scholarship Fund; Calvary Church, Syracuse, Ind.; or The University of Indianapolis, Colpitts Scholarship Fund.
