RICHARD C. "DICK" PHELPS, 82, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born Aug. 15, 1930, in South Bend, Ind., he was a 1948 graduate of South Side High School, Fort Wayne. He went on to graduate from Purdue University
in 1953 with a BA Degree in Forestry. He then went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War
. After returning from active service, he married his wife, Judy E. (Potts) Phelps on Nov. 9, 1957. He retired from Raytheon Communications in 1999 after 17 years as a Material Systems Specialist. He had also worked nine years at Magnavox Consumer Division prior. Dick was a longtime member of Crescent Avenue United Methodist Church and the Hughes Defense Communications Club of Indiana. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Judy E. Phelps; four children, Dan Phelps of Orlando, Fla. Jeff Phelps of Fort Wayne, Alisa Phelps of Rochester, N.Y., and Carrie Phelps of Indianapolis; a granddaughter, Erin Martinez of South Bend; two sisters, Jeanne Klug of Dayton, Ore. and Kay Mann of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred C. (Dare); father, Wendell C.; stepmother, Dorothy J. Phelps; and brother, Wayne Phelps. A funeral service to celebrate Dick's life is 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Chapel, 1140 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Friends and family may also gather to share and remember from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home.
