ROBERT "BOB" E. BENNER, 86, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born in Fort Wayne, Bob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a Mail Carrier with U.S. Post Service for 35 years, retiring on Nov. 1, 1981. He was a member Bethany United Methodist Church and the Post Office Last Man's Club. Bob enjoyed fishing, golfing and basketball. Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, Eileen Benner of Fort Wayne; son, David Benner of New Haven; daughters, Kathleen Benner of Fort Wayne and Laura (Rick) Hartman of New Haven; grandchildren, Mike (Talitha Shipman), Sarah (Shawn McKee) Brittany (Mark) Gerber, and Ashley (Justin Sarrazine); brother, William (Terri) Benner of Lamont, Ill.; and brother-in-law, Earl Rex Oberkiser of LaGrange. He was preceded in death by parents, William and Edna Benner; and sister, Mary Ann Oberkiser. Service is 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with calling one hour prior. Pastor Charles Scott officiating. Calling also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church.
