RUTH ELINOR BEEDY

RUTH ELINOR BEEDY, 91, of Auburn, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at her home. A lifelong resident of the Fort Wayne area, she was the owner of Beedy Farm known to thousands of people who had visited the farm over the years for fishing, camping or for school farm tours when her husband, Robert, was still alive. That tradition continues today with many people calling regularly on the farm for eggs and fresh vegetables during the season or pumpkins in the fall and to fish. Born Jan. 21, 1921, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Luella Ethel (Arnold) and Frederick Wilhelm Fuelling. She married Robert H. Beedy on Aug. 31, 1941, at Woodburn Methodist Church. She is a member of Auburn Presbyterian Church. For years, Elinor, Robert and their family operated the Cedar Creek Shopping Center that was located on the Tonkel Road. In the mid 1950's, the family's home was destroyed by fire because of the absence of a fire company close by. By the late 1950's, the family was instrumental in the development of a new fire company called the Cedar Canyon Fire Department. Elinor was a founding member of the Cedar Canyon Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. Today, the fire department is known as Northeast Fire and EMS. She is survived by three daughters, Ann (Kelly) Anthony of Lisbon, Conn., Nancy (Ross) Clark of Auburn and Linda Heiser of Leo; a son, Roger (Pamela) of Leo; nine grandchildren, Matthew Beedy, Sara Hayden, Lisa Cushing, Michelle Heiser, Robert Heiser; Tammy Davis, Kelly Ann Anthony, Robert Anthony, and Thomas Clark; and six great-grandchildren, Lindsey Davis, Raiden Moschel, Tarek Anthony, Isabel Anthony, Jessica Clark, and Brittney Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Jack, in 2003; a sister, Virginia Dolly Smith; and a brother, Glen Frederick Fuelling. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 9600 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, with calling from 10 to 11 a.m. The Reverend Lyle Ewing officiating. Friends will also be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at the church. Memorials may be made to Northeast Fire and EMS, PO Box 428, Grabill, IN 46741; or Parkview Hospice, 1900 Carew St., Fort Wayne, IN 46805 or online at parkviewfoundations.org.
