SHIRLEY J. POWELL, 89, of Indianapolis, formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013. Born Nov. 16, 1923, in Hurley, Wis., she was a daughter of the late R. Thomas and Marie (Consie) Eddy. After moving to Fort Wayne, she worked as a chemist at International Harvester. She loved being a wife and mother, homemaker, and volunteer at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church where she was a faithful member. She enjoyed needlepoint in her spare time. Surviving family include her children, Cheryl J. (Dr. Frederick) Guengerich of Nashville, Tenn., Jeffrey B. (Lisa) Powell and Gregory A. (Sharon) Powell, both of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, and nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in passing by her husband of 63 years, Charles N. Powell, in 2012; and siblings, Martha Zwintscher and Harold R. Eddy. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 1819 Reservation Drive, Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour prior to services.
