THOMAS W. AHLERS, 56, of Anderson, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Community Hospital, Anderson. Born Oct. 1, 1948, in Lafayette, he graduated from West Lafayette High School, in 1966 and from Purdue University. He was employed with Indianapolis Private Industry Council, Inc. as Director of Research and Development from August of 1997 to present. He served as Fiscal Officer and Executive Director of the Tecumseh Area Partnership, Lafayette, from 1977 to 1996. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Indiana Job Training Administrators (IJTA) and served as President from 1994-1996. He was a member of National Association of Work Force Development Professionals. He was a member of the National Speleological Society and worked at Mammoth Cave, exploring new sections in the early 1970's. He was an avid spelunker, rock climber and fisherman. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in Vietnam. Survived by his wife, Connie (Buck) Markwell Ahlers of Anderson, whom he married July 2, 1998; stepchildren, Amy (Darryl) Layton and Aaron (Juli) Markwell; step-grandchildren, Shad Dixon, Corbin Smith, Tory Markwell, Zane Layton and Cydnie Layton; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Dorothy Buck of Anderson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Mary Buck, Robert and Rita Buck and Steve and Joyce Buck, all of Anderson, Don and Barb Buck of Indianapolis; and several stepnieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norma and William Ahlers; and brother, Richard. Service is 4 p.m. Saturday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, with Gene Critchfield officiating.
