THOMAS W. "JACK" BURTNETTE, 85, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, Jack was a graduate of North Side High School in 1948. He retired as a Fort Wayne firefighter in 1978. Later, he worked as a Deputy Assessor for Wayne Township in Allen County for 17 years, retiring in 2005. He also served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of First Wayne Street United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time watching his grandchildren play sports, visiting with neighbors, walking the dog and watching the Pacers. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Burtnette of Fort Wayne; daughter, Laurie L. (Darren) Bailey of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Joseph and Jacqueline Burtnette, Benjamin and Emma Bailey; and great-grandchild, Owen Burtnette. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel T. Burtnette; and parents, Earl and Gertrude Burtnette. Service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with calling one hour prior.
