VERLON RAY ALLEN SR., 85, passed away on Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. Born in Violet, N.C., Verlon worked as a foreman with Perfection Bakery for 30 years. He was a member of Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and an Elder of the Tribe. He was also a Navy veteran of World War II. He was an avid fisherman and loved to fish the Cedarville reservoir and river. Surviving are his children, Verlon Ray Allen Jr. of Florida, Barbara Jean (Kim) Satterfield of Fort Wayne, Gary Lee (Laura) Allen of Illinois, Brenda Gail O'Riordan and Larry Charles (Cindy) Allen, both of Fort Wayne, Sharon Ann (John) Pote of Arizona, Roger Wayne (Nancy) Allen of Fort Wayne, and David Phillip (Elaine) Allen of California; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Irene (Paul) Foster of S.C.; and brothers, Brance (Ruth) Allen and Marvin (Katherine) Allen, both of Georgia, and Cecil (Evelyn) Allen of N.C. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lillie Allen; and loving wife of 59 years, Emma Allen. Service is 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with calling two hours prior. Pastor Ken Flood officiating. Entombment in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
