VIRGINIA R. RICHARDS, 89, passed away on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013. Born Feb. 24, 1923, in Detroit, Mich., she was a daughter of William and Martha (Dega) Kuschel. She married Monte K. Richards on June 14, 1947 at St. Mark's Church, Detroit. After brief residences in Kalamazoo and Detroit, the couple moved to Fort Wayne in 1955. Virginia was an excellent secretary and bookkeeper and utilized those skills as treasurer for the athletic department at R. Nelson Snider High School, an assistant to Mayor Robert Armstrong, and a secretary to Gary Probst. Virginia was a 50 year member at and volunteer with the First Presbyterian Church. She had a passion for reading that she willingly shared with family and friends alike. She was an avid gardener, delighting in growing woodland plants in her garden. She never met an animal that she didn't like. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Altenbernd of Tampa, Fla.; son, Chris Richards of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial service is 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Douglas Vogel officiating.
