DR. WILLIAM E. BRANDT, M.D., 87, passed away on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, he was a General, Thoracic and Cardiovas cular Surgeon for over 40 years, and helped many people along the way. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Wayne Country Club, American Legion Post 82, V.F.W. 857, 4th Degree K of C Life Member 451, Fort Wayne and Allen County Medical Society and Past President of St. Joseph Hospital. He was a World War II Army veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Surviving are his wife, Marybelle "Joan" Brandt; sons, William H. Brandt of Fort Wayne and Michael E. Brandt of Monroe, Mich.; daughters, Sandra Brandt (Paul) Brugge of Clarendon Hills, Ill. and Susan Brandt (Bryce) Dorst of Danville, Calif.; grandchildren, Eric James Brugge, Rachel Kay Brugge, Allyssa Marie Dorst and Leah Nicole Dorst; brother, Robert T. (Patte) Brandt of Hot Springs, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Diedrich H. and Grace Rohrer Brandt; and brother, Diedrich H. Brandt III. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with calling one hour prior. Fr. Mark Davis officiating. Calling also from2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, with a Vigil at 7:30 p.m. Entombment in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
