Mrs Blackledge was the first principal I served under after graduating from Manchester College in 1958. She was gracious, kind,so encouraging, a perfect mentor for a first year teacher. I never knew of her past experiences until tonight when I looked her up on my IPad. What a beautiful lady. She certainly influenced my 33 year career as a teacher near Dayton, Ohio.

By far, the finest teacher that I ever had through elementary, secondary, high school, college, and law school. She was my 4th grade teacher at Price and we both were avid basketball and sports fans. Truly the only teacher that impacted my life.

I too was a student at Southern Heights. What a lovely lady she was, my mother Margaret Leakey just loved her too. They are for sure together right now talking and laughing.

Helen was first my mother's friend and chauffeur to their AAUW International Relations group. Many years later my husband and I shared in an AAUW Great Decisions group with her. She helped and inspired us with her world view. What a wonderful spirit and intellect she showed. We share in your sense of loss.

My dad taught under Mrs. Blackledge when at Southern Heights and her recommendation helped him get promoted to the principals position he held for many years. She was a wonderful lady and a good friend to our family!

Mrs. Blackledge was the principal of Southern Heights when I was a student. Loved her as a principal, and remember when Martin Luther King was killed, she did an "all call" on the classroom speakers and asked us to pray for his family and our country. I was in 3rd grade, and that memory remains vivid. Mrs. Blackledge attended the worship service when I was ordained a Presbyterian minister, and I have been blessed to visit her, now and then, in Fort Wayne. She was always kind, gracious, and challenged all of us to be the best we can be. Prayers to the family, and thank you for sharing her with all of us. She touched our lives, our hearts, and created a place of learning and welcome! She will be missed, but what a wonderful life she lived!

What a life this wonderful woman has had - 107 years, that is rare. It has been an absolute privilege knowing Miss Helen for the past 30 years. I met her when I worked at Pro Fed and then, became very good friends with her while I was at Kingston. I loved her spunk and openness, her laugh and joyful soul. She will be greatly missed. You, the family must be very proud of your Mother, Grandmother, Great and Great-great Grandmother. Not many folks see those many years and that many generations. God Bless you all richly and give you peace.

I enjoyed servicing her plumbing needs for many years in her home in Lincolnshire, which was the former residence of its builder, Jack Worthman.
