ARTHUR W. ADAM, 88, of Decatur, died on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, 3 p.m., at Ossian Health & Rehabilitation Center, Ossian. Born Oct. 11, 1924, in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Joseph J. Adam and Blanche B. (Workman) Adam. He married Vera J. Scherry on July 2, 1949; she passed away on Sept. 7, 2007. Art was a member of Salem United Church of Christ Church, Magley, Ind.; a member of the American Legion Post 43; and past president of the Preble Volunteer Fireman's Association. Art served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Art retired in 1982 from Rea Magnet Wire with 37 years of service. Surviving are his son, Ricky W. (Donna) Adam of Bluffton; daughter, Cheryl L. (Darrell) Heyerly of Decatur; son, Dennis W. Adam of Huntington; four grandchildren, Joey Ann (Fred) Ray of Fort Wayne, Troy (Kristen) Adam of Poe, Ind., Michelle (Craig) Simon of Bluffton, and Adam Heyerly of Decatur; and two great-grandchildren, JadeLyn Heyerly-Jones of Bluffton and Braxton Adam of Poe, Ind. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Loren D., Joseph M. and Kenneth R. Adam; and two sisters, Anna Jane Bennett and Francile J. VanWagner. Service is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, with calling one hour prior. Pastor David Butz officiating. Calling also from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial in Salem U.C.C. Cemeter, with military graveside service conducted by American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
