BETTY ILENE POITRAS, lived to celebrate her 85th birthday, and then peacefully went to be with the Lord Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, in Fort Wayne. Born on Oct. 15th, in Fort Wayne, Betty worked as a registrar with Limberlost Girl Scout Council for 13 years, retiring in 1990. Betty, who was quick-witted and had a lively personality, mixed her passion for Bridge and laughter with many special friends, and a member of the former Fort Wayne Women's Club. She passed along her sense of humor and straight forward attitude to her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Roger (Rita) Poitras and Thomas (Laura) Poitras of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; daughter, Janet (Mike) Ettensohn; and sisters, Jean Weilbaker of Cincinnati, Ohio and Wanda Ross. She was adored by her nine grandchildren, Brian, Jeffrey and Sarah Poitras, Rachel, Melissa and Ashley Poitras and Danny, Tara and Tracey Ettensohn; and two great-grandchildren, Sierra and Delilah Poitras. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Florence Larson; first husband, Arthur H. Hemsoth, in 1944; second husband, Robert E. Poitras, in 1984; and son, Donald. "In the last weeks of her life, she met new people who helped her in her walk with cancer. They each have a story to tell about her humor and strength, as well". Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10400 Aboite Center Road, with calling one hour prior at the church. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road. Burial in Catholic Cemetery. Memorials to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
