BETTY (BLISS) WHITING, 85, of Fort Wayne, died on Monday, May 21, 2012. Since having a stroke in October of 2011, she had been residing with her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Mort Patterson in Knoxville, Tenn. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, the Fort Wayne Women's Club and the Women's Benefit Association. Born Feb. 16, 1927, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late Emmitt and Elizabeth Bliss. She was the adored grandmother of Scott, Chad (Megan) and Todd (Amanda) Patterson and was greatly loved by her five great-grandchildren. She had a full life. She worked at I.H. during World War II, then at Capehart TV Mfg., Nobson's, Robert's Printing Co., and retired from Parkview after 20 years of service, most of which was on the rehab unit. She continued to do Home Health Care until her late 70's. Also surviving are her brothers, Bill Bliss and Andy Bliss; sisters, Donna Hoy and Barbara Howell. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Jim Bliss; and husband, Parker Whiting. Service is 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne St., with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. The Rev. David Bliss (her nephew) and Pastor Chad Patterson (her grandson) will conduct services. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
