ELZORA "DOTY" MILLER, 74, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, peacefully at home. The daughter of the late Samuel Sullivan Dixie and Ladine Rosetta Dixie Jackson, she was a lifelong resident of Fort Wayne. Elzora attended Central High School and later Ivy Tech Community College (then Ivy Tech State College). She retired from Fort Wayne Community Schools in 1996. She was a lifelong member of Turner Chapel AME Church, until joining Faith United Methodist Church 2007. At Turner Chapel, Elzora was an integral force behind the young people's department and Sunday school classes for preschoolers. She focused her life on raising her children and nieces and nephews placed in her care. An animal lover, she kept a variety of pets from childhood through adulthood, including a goat, a guinea pig, iguanas, and a host of cats and dogs. She enjoyed watching police procedurals and donating to animal and law enforcement-based charities. She is survived by daughters, Reba Faye Ervin and Dodie Marie Miller, both of Fort Wayne; sons, Willie Jr., Mark, and Samuel, all of Fort Wayne; sisters, Martha Jane Wilson of Fort Wayne and Dora Dixie of Chicago, Ill., Deloris Davis of New York City, Dorothy Jean Boyd of California, Bonnie Jackson of Kansas City, Mo., and Donna Sims of Alabama; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a host of loving relatives and friends; along with her beloved Himalayan cat, Misty. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Dixie and Ladine Dixie Jackson; husband, Willie R. Miller Sr.; brother, Sam Jr.; daughter, Joyce Juanita Mosley; son, Donald Mosley; and son-in-law, Alex James Ervin. Service is 1 p.m. Friday at Faith United Methodist Church 207 E. Dewald St., with visitation starting at 11 a.m. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Ellis Funeral Home.
