ERNESTINE JOHNSON HIDES, 82, of Fort Wayne, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital. Born Dec. 28, 1930, in Evergreen, Ala., she was the seventh of nine children and a daughter of the late Willie Johnson and Lura (Dailey) Johnson. Ernestine worked in various employment settings throughout her life; however, her most memorable tenure was with the former Fort Wayne State School where she retired in 1984. Though she spent years in Michigan, Illinois, and California, Ernestine had been a resident of Fort Wayne for many years. Shs is survived by her brother, Ellis B. (Yuki) Dailey; two sisters, Gertha M. Jordan and Eualeen (James) Chapman; eight children, Norma J. (Alston) Gray, Arthur L. (Jacqueline) Hides II, Madeline Y. Hides, Beverly R. (Douglas) Cain, Debra R. Boone, Marquita G. Hides, Roderick L. Hides, and Karl A. Hides; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends. Service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1331 Gay St. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at the church. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery.
