FLORENCE M. BERNING, 92, of Hoagland, passed away Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 at Village of Heritage in Monroeville. She was born April 26, 1921 in Mercer County, Ohio a daughter of the late Charles A. and Anna M. (Tegler) Siebert. She married Frederick W. Berning on Sept. 16, 1951 and he passed away on Nov. 26, 2012. Florence was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church-Bingen; the Ladies Guild of the church; Allen County Farm Bureau Board where she served as a Woman's leader. She was a homemaker and had worked at General Electric for four years. During World War II she served in the WAC (Women's Army Corps) where she was a Physical Training Instructor and also received training as a medical - surgical technician. Surviving are her daughter, Elaine (Jim) McDonald of Tempe, Ariz.; sons, Norman (Cindy) Berning of Hoagland, Dean Berning of Decatur, and Roger Berning of Hoagland; sister, Annetta Siebert of Celina, Ohio; and brother, Paul J. Siebert of Celina, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. She was prececed in death by four brothers, Walter, Irvin, Robert, and Lee A. Siebert; four sisters, Louella Seddelmeyer, Esther Rasawehr, Bertha Waggoner, and Wilhelmina Gambrell. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church-Bingen, with calling one hour prior. Rev. Peter Brock officiating. Visitation also from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Ind. Burial at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery-Bingen.
