FREDERICK W. HAMBLETON, 85, of Fremont, formerly of New Haven, passed peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, with his family by his side. Born Dec. 27, 1927, in Wells County, Ind., he was a son of Charles and Elry (Beaber) Hamble ton. He graduated from Union Center High School in the class of 1945. As soon as he graduated from high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II and served for two years. Then in 1951, he enlisted in the Indiana Air National Guard, where he retired with over 30 years of service with the rank of Master Sergeant. While serving at Baer Field, he met his wife of 48 years, Winnie Penrod. They were married on Dec. 18, 1965. He was a life member of the George Anspaugh V.F.W. Post 7205, Angola; and a life member of New Haven American Legion Post 330. He was Past Commander of the 4th District Legion, Northeastern Indiana. Winnie and Fred retired to their home at the lake that they enjoy with their family. They wintered in N. Ft. Myers, Fla. He is survived by his wife, Winnie of Fremont; children, Linda (Jerry) Borne of Ossian, Tim (Karla Coburn) Fitzgerald of Fort Wayne, Priscilla Hambleton of Fremont, and Scott (Carrie) Hambleton of Angola; nephew, Lynn Pauley of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents; two sons, Lynn Hambleton and Shaun Fitzgerald; three brothers, Rex Hambleton, Harold Hambleton and Max Hambleton; and one sister, Viola Pauley. Service is 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Weicht Funeral Home, Angola. Bob Newman officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at the funeral home, with a Military service at 7:30 p.m. conducted by the 4th District Legion of NE Indiana. Military graveside service conducted by the U.S. Air Force and burial is 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made in Fred's name to the 4th District Homeless Veterans, PO Box 195, Fremont IN 46737. Arrangements by Weicht Funeral Home.
