GERTRUDE L. "GERTIE" FLORENT, 98, died on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg. Born July 20, 1914, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Edward and Anna (Happel) Blessing. She moved to Galesburg in April of 2001. She married Richard W. Florent on Oct. 28, 1939; he died on Jan. 29, 1972. Before moving to Galesburg, she worked for Vera Bradley and volunteered at the American Cancer Society. She considered sewing her therapy and enjoyed making quilts and school bags for Lutheran World Relief. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Galesburg. Surviving are her daughter, Karen (Bob) Ramage of Galesburg; son, Gary (Ella) Florent of Thomasville, Ga.; five grandchildren, Michael (Rose) Ramage of Forest Park, Ill., Christopher (Barbara) Ramage of Danville, Ky., U.S. Army Major Jennifer Florent of Arlington, Va., Anthony Florent and Geoffrey Florent, both of Plano, Texa; four great-grandchildren; sister, Betty (Robert) Woodmansee of Bruce, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be held at a later date in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
