JAMES WESLEY HORNADAY, 67, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in Marion, Ind., he attended Mississippi Valley State University on a football scholarship and Indiana Tech. James was a U.S. Marine veteran and the first African American welder with NIPSCO where he worked for several years. He was a member of Headwater Congregation at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was an avid football fan and enjoyed listening to music especially the blues. Surviving are his wife, Wally N. Hornaday; daughters, Ja'Cole Hornaday of Fort Wayne and Dondrea (Ernest) Hill of Marion; sons, Sean (Lori) Hornaday of Tucson, Ariz. and Keith Hornaday of Seattle, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; sisters, Mearl Marks of Atlanta, Ga. and Gladys Sheron of Davison, Mich.; and brothers, Jerry (Dorothy) Hornaday Sr. and John (Sylvia) Hornaday, both of St Louis, Mo., Larry (Janice) Hornaday Sr. of Marion, Ind., Dhafir Walikraam Sr. of Riverside, Calif., Paul (Lechele) Hornaday Sr. of Tulsa, Okla., Darrel Hornaday and Charles Hornaday, both of Los Vegas, Nev., Edward Hornaday of Flint, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vearl S. and Virginia L. Hornaday; and brothers, Vearl Hornaday Jr., William Hornaday and David Hornaday. Service is 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Sandpoint Congregation Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Committal service to follow at D.O. McComb Tribute Center. Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at D.O. McComb & Son Lake Side Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to the Jehovah's Witnesses.
