

JOHN W. "JACK" BARCH, M.D., 86, of Fort Wayne, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009 at home. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, son of Virgil and Iley (Upton) Barch, he practiced internal medicine in Fort Wayne for two years, then joined Lincoln Life in Administrative medicine, retiring in 1985 as Senior Vice-President and Chief Medical Director with 26 years of service. He was a graduate of Ohio State University School of Medicine in 1948, served his internship at Indianapolis General Hospital from 1948 to 1949, residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation from 1951 to 1954. He was a U.S. Airforce Medical Corp Captain serving for two years in Japan. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen R. Barch of Fort Wayne; daughters, Anne (Mick) Burdge of Kettering, Ohio and Nancy (Bill) Vonderau of New Haven; son, Daniel (Della) Barch of Wellington, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Barch; sisters, Helen Hamilton and Marguerite Malone; and brother, William Barch. Memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, with calling one hour prior. A reception to follow the service.
