JOSEPH D. SHAFFER, 80, of rural Columbia City, passed away peacefully at 11:23 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 at his home with his family at his side. He was a veteran from the German occupation of the Korean War. He was a retired tool and die maker for Tokhiem Corporation after 44 years and continued farming. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 61 years Stella; four daughters, Penny Shaffer, Pam (Carl) Emley, Paula (Ellis) Sturgill and Polly (David) Cox; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Autumn. Service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Burial at South Whitley Cemetery. Memorials to Parkview Home Health & Hospice.
