LASS SMALL Obituary

LASS SMALL, (Author), formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011. She was born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1923. She is best known for writing over 70 romance novels published throughout the 1980's and 1990's and since reprinted around the world. In addition to receiving the Romance Writers of America Award, she received an Artist and Writer Award at the Embassy Theater as part of the bicentennial celebration of the founding of Fort Wayne. She attended the Fort Wayne School of Art in the 1960's and was an accomplished artist, working in water colors, oil, charcoal and pencil. She took active part in community service, participating in A.C.O.R.N., ARTLink, and Tri Kappa. She was a huge fan of authors Edgar Rice Burroughs, Georgette Heyer, Gene Roddenberry, and Robert E. Howard whose works inspired her to write. She is survived by her four children, Carolyn Small Grant, Elizabeth Purcell, Virginia Miner Stephens, and Kelly Small. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Small in January of 2010. Mrs. Small was one of my favorite writers when I first started reading romance. She contributed to my love of reading. She will be greatly missed.
