MAURICE F. "SAM" OTTENWELLER, 87, of Peoria, Ill., passed away at 2:09 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 at Proctor Hospital. He was born Oct. 25, 1925 in Fort Wayne, a son of Edward and Edith Ottenweller. He married Harriette L. Brase on Sept. 3, 1949, in Fort Wayne, and she survives. Sam was a World War II Army veteran, where he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart. He later worked as a civil engineer for McDougal-Hartman Co. in Peoria, Ill. retiring as Vice-President. "He was loved by many for his kindness, gentle-spirit, and his sense of humor." He was a great fan of Purdue sports. His favorite times were spent at the lake with the family and grandkids. He is also survived by his children, Bill (Judy) Ottenweller of San Carlos, Calif., Mary Anne (Wes) Carius of Geneseo, Ill, Kathy Wilkowski of Eugene, Ore., Tom Ottenweller of Madison, Wis., Christine (Pat) Munoz of Round Rock, Texas, and Theresa Maisel of Sarasota, Fla.; six grandchildren; one brother, Nelson (Jeanette) Ottenweller of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Neva Nill of Fort Wayne, and Rita Mach of Minneapolis, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Ottenweller of Lake Charles, La. He was preceded in death by two sisters; and one brother. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, with calling 30 minutes prior. Msgr. William Watson will officiate. Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with a scripture service at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
