RICHARD N. BURNS, 86, of Hillsdale, Mich. passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 at his home. He was born January 1, 1926 in Fort Wayne, a son of Norman E. and Patia (Powell) Burns. He was married Feb. 28, 1947 to Eileen Shank and she preceded him in death in 1998. He graduated from Central High School in Fort Wayne, in 1944. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy serving with the Fighting Sea Bees at Normandy. He retired as Plant Manager of Essex Wire in 1986. He was a member of the Hillsdale American Legion and the Elks. Surviving is a daughter, Sheila Burns of Hillsdale, Mich.; a son, Richard E. (Stella) Burns of Spring Lake, Mich.; his companion , Florence Fleck of Lafayette, Ind.; two grandchildren, Holly Cumberland of Warsaw, Ind. and Tina Gray of Austin, Texas; and a great-granddaughter, Savanah Sano of Atlantic City, N. J. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Norman. There will be no services or calling hours for Richard Burns at this time. Interment will take place at Lindenwood Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Ind. at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
