WILLIAM R. "RUDY" VANOLDEN, 90, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at Heritage Park Health Care Center in Fort Wayne. Born in the city Surabaya in the Dutch East Indies, Rudy served in the Dutch Army during World War II and became a P.O.W. for three years until 1945. He was a Police Inspector in the Dutch East Indies, and also worked as a engineering technician with Phelps Dodge for nine years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Dutch Brothers and Arms, and served as Vice President of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. He was very active in theater and enjoyed tennis, bowling and soccer. Surviving are his wife, Jenny Vanolden of Fort Wayne; son, Roy Vanolden of Fort Wayne; daughters, Sharon (Mark) Nelson, Vanessa Grush both of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Johan (Aagje) Vanolden of Riverside, Calif., Victor Vanolden of Charlotte, N. C.; and sister, Henrietta Macare of Buena Park, Calif. He was preceded in death by parents, Albert Johan and Catherine Vanolden; son, Teddy Vanolden; brothers, William, and Albert Vanolden; sisters, Ida and Thea Vanolden.
