JACK W. OLIVER, 92, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at Cedars Nursing Home, Leo. He had been a resident of Georgetowne Community Home, Fort Wayne since 2008. Born in Illinois and raised on a farm near Coesse, Ind., he attended Purdue University and then graduated from Indiana University. He was a U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander during World War II and received the Bronze Star. After the war, he worked for Indiana University for two years assisting returning World War II veterans sign up for GI Bill of Right benefits to attend IU. He then moved to Birmingham, Ala., where he worked as a sales representative for Proctor & Gamble for 29 years until his retirement in 1976. He was a resident of Mountain Brook, a suburb of Birmingham for 37 years and a member of Canterbury United Methodist Church. He later moved to Bessemer, Ala. and attended Hopewell Presbyterian Church and volunteered at The Salvation Army. He attended Bethel United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne. He is survived by his son, Randall J. (Joyce) Oliver of Fort Wayne; adopted daughter, Katherine (Tim) Ross of Neosho, Mo.; grandson, Wade (Jessica) Oliver; granddaughter, Dawn (Chris) Black; step-granddaughter, Marcy (Derrick) McCann of Fort Wayne; granddaughter, Karen (Richard) Morton of Lebanon Tennessee; adopted daughter, Terri Schaefer of Florida; stepdaughter, Jo Ann (Roy) Rufo of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; stepdaughter, Bette (Joe) Butler of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; stepgrandson, Chadd (Kristi) Pierce of Raleigh, N.C.; seven other grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchild ren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine, in 1963; and wife, Myrtle, in 2000. Graveside service is 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Ala.
