FLORENCE S. KLOTZ, 89, of Pittsford, N.Y, died on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., she attended Pennsylvania College for Women, now Chatham College, graduating at the age of 19 with a degree in elementary education. In 1942, she married Rev. John W. Klotz and raised their eight children as they lived in Mankato, Minn.; River Forest, Ill.; Fort Wayne, Ind.; St. Louis, Mo.; and her final home in Pittsford, N.Y. She was an excellent musician, proficient on the piano and organ. She played frequently for services at her beloved Lutheran churches including Pinnacle Lutheran Church in Rochester where she was a member. A talented artist, she drew pen-and-ink sketches to accompany her husband's nature column in the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette. In 1960, she and her husband were among the founders of the Allen County Reserves (ACRES), a land conservancy organization in Northeastern Indiana. For many years she illustrated the ACRES newsletter. She accompanied her husband on travels around the world, especially enjoying the trips that took her to visit family and friends or involved wildlife. She is remembered for her steadfast Christian faith, her kind and patient nature, her ability to listen, and her affection for children. She is survived by her brother, George Succop; seven children, Kenneth (Karen) of Saratoga Springs, Richard, of Pleasanton, Calif., Martin (Nancy Kilson) of Brooklyn, N.Y., Barbara Gehrett (Joseph) of Auburn, Wash., Alan (Beth Ann) of Indianapolis., Nancy (John Bowen) of Pittsford, N.Y., and Marilyn (Carl Johnson) of Rochester, N.Y.; daughter-in-law, Margaret of Dublin, Ireland; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Edith Dibble, in 1970; her oldest son, Frederick, in 1988; and husband, Rev. John W. Klotz, in 1996. Memorial service is 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012, at Mt. Royal Cemetery, Glenshaw, Pa. followed by interment. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Chatham College, Woodland Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15232. Arrangements by Crawford Funeral Home, Rochester, N.Y.
