WILLIE J. "BUDDY" DATES JR., 59, passed peacefully Sunday, May 6, 2012, at New Haven Care & Rehab. He was born in Columbus, Miss. Surviving are his wife, Carol Dates; daughters, Felicia (Melvin) Smith, India (Jovan) Witherspoon, Kandice McGow- an, and Stephanie Dates; son, Terry Dufor; and a grandson raised as a son, Nicholas J. Dates; mother, Ozie Bell Dates; sisters, Annette Savor, Debra Moody and Nettie Hudson; and 16 grandchildren; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie J. Dates Sr.; son, Willie J. Dates III; and brother, Eugene Harris. Service is 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2012, at Ellis Funeral Home, 1021 E. Lewis St. Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
