REV. DR. VIRGIL WESLEY SEXTON, 94, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012, in Austell, Ga. Born May 25, 1918, he was a US Navy Veteran, a Comm-ander, Chaplain Corps, in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during WWII, and in Cuba and Morocco during the Korean War. He graduated from Asbury College and Garrett Theological Seminary, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. He received an honorary doctorate from The University of Evansville. He served Indiana pastorates in Kimmel, Willow Branch, Whitewater, Van Buren, Elkhart, Goshen, Decatur, Indianapolis Broad Ripple and Irvington, before becoming the District Superintendent of the Indianapolis District. He was then Associate General Secretary for the Board of Global Ministries in New York City for 10 years, before serving in the Florida Conference until his retirement. He is survived by his children, Linda (Keith) Sexton-Patrick of Asheville, N.C., John W. (Suzanne) Sexton of Norcross, Ga. and Judi (Steve) Sexton Logan of Wilmington, N.C.; granddaughter, Anne Faris Brennan of New York, N.Y.; grandson, Greg Faris; and great-granddaughter, Penelope Jane Faris of Carrboro, N.C.; sister, Dorothy Howe of Rockville, Md.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Katy, his wife of 62 years. Memorial service is 3 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2012 in Lakeview Chapel, Presbyterian Village, 2000 East-West Connector, Austell, GA 30106. Internment will be private in the Memorial Garden, Trinity Presbyterian Church, Atlanta, Ga. Memorials can be sent to "Virgil's Trail" in care of the Landscape Committee at Presbyterian Village.
