STAN R. BUCK, 52, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at his home after an 18 month courageous battle with a brain tumor. Born in Muncie, Ind., he graduated from Muncie North Side High School. He was an Emens Scholar at Ball State University and graduated with a B.S. degree in Economics. He received his Master of Divinity Degree from Oral Roberts University and his Doctorate of Ministry from Asbury Theological Seminary. In 1987, he became the founding pastor of Sonrise Church. A week prior to his death, he was honored by the Sonrise Community for 25 years of faithful service. Camp Adventure is where Stan received his call to ministry as a camper. He loved attending camp and spent many summers directing camps for the United Methodist Church. He was loved by the youth and children of Sonrise Church and will always be remembered for the exciting chapel services he led for the Sonrise preschool. He participated in mission work in Kenya, Burma, and Haiti, serving as a board member of Jesus in Haiti. He was gifted in leadership and served on many boards and committees. Some of these included Conference Church Development Committee, Conference Camp Board, and Vice President of the Fort Wayne District Church Builders. He was also part of the Church Planter Assessment Team for the United Brethren and Missionary Church. He also served as a board member for Stop the Madness (Values Based Initiative), One-Church, One-Offender, Leadership Fort Wayne, and Greater Fort Wayne Association of Evangelicals. He has mentored many pastors through his coaching network called Windsights Consulting. He has taught classes for Taylor University, Huntington University, Indiana Wesleyan University and the Pastoral Leadership Institute. He loved to play basketball and was a former coach for AGBL and former Assistant Girls Basketball Coach at Homestead High School. He treasured time spent with his family at Lake Wawasee and was an avid sailor. Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Kathleen; daughters, Stephanie (Kyle) Thomas of Denver, Colo. and Ashley (Justin) Waterson of Fort Wayne; father, Charles Buck of Portland, Ind.; mother, Lucille Harris of Muncie, Ind.; brothers, Jeff (Debbie) Buck of Fort Wayne and Mark (Kathy) Buck of Indianapolis, Ind.; and his toy poodle, Quincy. His first grandchild, Baby Thomas, is due to deliver on Dec. 12, 2012. A funeral service celebrating the life of Stan is 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at The Chapel, 2505 W. Hamilton Road. Calling is from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 and from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Sonrise Church, 10125 Illinois Road. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
