MARY KATHRYN "KATIE" MONESMITH, 91, formerly of Fort Wayne, died on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Baptist Trinity Hospice Home, Collier ville, Tenn. She was a housewife. She moved to the Memphis, Tenn. area in 2004 to be near her son, Kent. "Katie was a devoted Christian and a kind, gentle, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister to her husband's brother and sister. She lived every day of her life by following the Golden Rule." She was born in an upstairs bedroom of her grandfather's house in Adams County and was a graduate from South Side High School. She became engaged to her husband, Kenneth W. Monesmith, in 1941 and after waiting faithfully for him to return home after World War II they were married in 1945. They were happily married for 57 years until his death. She is survived by her son, Kent Monesmith; granddaughter, Shayne Haid; grandson, Brent Monesmith; great-grandchild ren, Alex and Samuel Haid and Kadin Monesmith; brother-in-law, George (Joan) Monesmith; nieces, Mickie Jones and Ellen Gaff; nephews, Ron and Steve Monesmith; and her loving caregiver, Kim Baker. She was also preceded in death by her father, Charles Cremean; mother, Esther (Fox) Cremean and an unnamed baby sister (both died during the baby's birth); step-mothers, Gladys (Miller) Cremean and Lelia (Hille) Cremean; sister-in-law, Eleanor Hirschman; niece, Debbie Hirschman; and nephew, Bill Monesmith. Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. She will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens. Memorials to Simpson United Methodist Church or Baptist Trinity Hospice House, Collierville, Tenn.
