GILBERT LEON McKEE, 78, of Fort Wayne, and Naples, Fla., went to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012. Gil was born in Fleming Co., Ky. on July 31, 1934 the son of Roy and Ruby (Baker) McKee and had also lived in Marion. He spent four years in the Navy and was a Quarter Master. He earned his Bachelors in Accounting at Ball State and worked the majority of his career with I & M as an accountant and A.E.P. auditor. He was an avid golfer and loved to be outside doing just about anything. He absolutely loved the outdoors! "Gil was such a fun loving, memorable character to all that knew him." He enjoyed playing cards and dice games with his sister Eileen, wife, daughter and son-in-law. "Gil was extremely proud of the time that he spent in the Navy and had plenty of stories to go along with it. He could tinker with anything that stood still and his Grand Doggies meant the absolute world to him!" Surviving are his wife of 50 years Joan K. (Devereaux) McKee; daughter, Annette A. (Paul) Springer; grandpets, Bubby, Harley and Sissy all of Fort Wayne; sisters, Maxine Turner, Eileen Whitton, Colleen (Wendall) Johnson; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Percy McKee; sister, Anna Catherine Church; as well as brother-in-laws, Howard Church, Virgil Turner and Demaree Whitton. Service is 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 at D. O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 at the funeral home. A funeral procession to Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, Ind. A Celebration of Life Luncheon to follow at cemetery reception facility provided by Joan McKee's Red Hat friends and neighbor. Memorials may be made to the A.S.P.C.A.
