DONALD SMITH, passed away on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013. Born June 24, 1942, in Norfolk, Va., Don was part of the U.S. Navy's Operational Readiness Inspection (ORI) team for four years based at NATO Headquarters in Norfolk, Va. He also served in the Viet Nam war during 1968 and 1969 as part of Operation Market Time aboard the U.S.S. Conflict (MSO 426) and aboard a Swift boat in the Mekong Delta. Following the Viet Nam War, Don graduated from Cal State, Long Beach. For 11 years, he was a Senior Managing Consultant performing Information Technology Audits for BKD, LLP the nation's tenth largest CPA firm. After departing BKD, Don joined the STAR Financial Group headquartered in Fort Wayne, as their Chief Information Security Officer. Don is a 2009 graduate of the FBI Citizen's Academy as well as a 2011 graduate of the Allen County Sheriff's Citizen's Academy. He was also a member of the Board of Directors for the FBI Citizens Academy Alumni Association as well as a member of the Board of Directors of Indiana Infragard. In 2012, Don and Elizabeth relocated to Phoenix, Ariz. Don was employed with the Arizona Department of Transportation, working as an Information Risk Analyst. He is survived by his best friend and wife of many years, Elizabeth Smith; their three children and five grandchildren, Shawn (wife, Lisa) Smith and their children, Sydney, Luke and Andy of Burnsville, N.C., Michelle (husband, Jon) Larmore and their children, Jonathan and Bridget of Phoenix, Ariz., and Camry Blaising of Atlanta, Ga.; and sister, Anita Harter of Parsippany, N.J. Service is 11 a.m. Thursday at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church, 4455 E. Lincoln Drive, Paradise Valley, Ariz. (85253). The family will receive guests at the home of Michelle and Jon Larmore following the service.
