DONALD E. RYAN, 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2014, in Fort Wayne. He reunited with his wife of 65 years, Rita, who passed away just three months ago. Don graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1945. Don worked at International Harvester (later Navistar) for 45 years, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed the many life-long friends he met during his work years, especially his golf buddies. Don was very active in St. Jude's parish and at Bishop Dwenger High School. He loved to spend time with family, especially if that involved heading to a local football, basketball, volleyball, TinCaps baseball, or Notre Dame football game. Don was a U.S. Army Air Corps. veteran and a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus. "In all that they did, he was his kids and grandkids biggest fan." Don is survived by his children, Kent (Kim) of Noblesville, Kevin (Amy) of Chicago, Ill., Kerry (Brigid) of Hingham, Mass., Tom (Colleen) of Omaha, Neb., Rhonda (Rob) Winkeljohn of Fort Wayne, and Coleen (Jared) Parcell of Fort Wayne; sister, Jean Halliwill of Fort Wayne; 14 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Sylvester and Gertrude (Brake) Ryan. He is preceded in death by his brother, Richard; and sisters, Joan Gaskill and Virginia Guevara. Funeral mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2014, at St. Jude Catholic Church, with calling one hour prior. Visitation also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014, with a vigil at 3 p.m. at D. O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Catholic School Tuition Assistance Fund or Bishop Dwenger High School. To sign the online guestbook, visit www.domccombandsons.com
