ALFRED "AL" CONRAD, 79, of Decatur, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at his residence. Born April 15, 1935, in Adams County, he was a son of the late Roy and Helen (Schroeder) Conrad. Al married Jackie Reidenbach on Dec. 16, 1962. Al was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, in Decatur. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 43 and was a past Commander of the V.F.W. Al spent his life working in jobs that allowed him to be surrounded by wonderful people doing what he loved. His work included bartending at the Old Back Forty, owned the Victory Bar, owned a construction company, traveled the U.S. driving semis, and delivered motor homes. He enjoyed the people he met along the way and always had a story to bring home. He cared deeply for others, often putting their needs before his own, and it has always been stated that "he never knew a stranger". Surviving is his wife, Jackie of Decatur; daughter, Lori (Scott) Scherer of Houston, Texas; son, Mark (Julie) Conrad of Bloomington; a sister, Irene Grote; a brother, Dick Conrad; and four grandchildren, Mackenzie, Isabelle, Carson, and Caroline Conrad. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur. Pastor Phil Phifer officiating.
