ROBERT McMAHON, 83, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at home. Robert was a loving father, grandfather and friend. Born in Bucyrus, Ohio, his family moved to Fort Wayne in 1948. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1949. He joined the Marine Corps Reserves and was assigned to active duty in Korea as Company First Sgt. He returned home a year later and joined the Home Telephone Company as assistant supervisor of the Revenue Accounting Department. He next joined the Fort Wayne Fire Department in 1961 as a combat firefighter and in 1961 was promoted to Fire Prevention Chief. In 1981, he became the first City Fire Marshall of Fort Wayne. In 1981, he retired to join the Essex Division of United Technologies as the Chief of Fire Protection, covering 51 locations. He was a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary International and a 30 year member of Anthony Wayne Rotary. He was also a member of American Legion Post 296, V.F.W. Post 2689, and charter member of the Fort Wayne Fire Dept. Museum. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Donahue McMahon; two sisters, Barbara Kinder of Rosenberg, Texas and Patricia (Hoyt) Elrod of Leesburg, Fla.; three daughters, Cathy (Chuck) Larson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Susan (and partner, Norb Ashby) Klein of Mesa, Ariz. and Linda Bunn of Wolcottville; and stepdaughter, Carrie Chapman of Fort Wayne; stepson, Steven Donahue of Colchester, Vt.; three grandsons; one granddaughter; 10 great-grandchildren; and three step-grandsons. Service is 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1,2014, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 421 W. Wayne St., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery.
