ROBERT G. KESSLER, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, May 8, 2014. He was born Dec. 22, 1933 in Portland, Ind., the son of Marion A. and Mabel (Greer) Kessler. He was a graduate of Portland High School and Marion College (now Indiana Wesleyan University). He began his 60 year fire protection career with the Liniger Company in Marion, Ind. In 1972, he moved to Fort Wayne where he was employed by Shambaugh & Son for 20 years. The remainder of his career was spent as a self-employed designer of fire protection systems. Robert was a very active member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church since moving to Fort Wayne. He was the teacher of the Builder's Class; sang in the choir; collected metals to raise money for the youth group; participated in many other Bible Study / Discipleship groups; he was a member of various committees throughout the years and was ever willing to serve his beloved church family. His life long love of woodworking began in his youth as an apprentice in his Uncle Basil's custom cabinet shop in Portland. Surviving are his loving wife of 44 years, Rita; three children, Tony (Ingrid) Volikas of Kokomo, Ind., Elizabeth Volikas (Jeffrey) White of Carbondale, Colo., and Benjamin (Marla) Kessler of Fort Wayne; he was adored by his seven grandchildren, Ashley, Katy and Lilly Volikas, Morgan and Emma White, and Joshua and Shannon Kessler; also surviving are his brother, James (Mary) Kessler of Troy, Mich.; and his sister, Ruthann (Tom) Shoemaker of Berne, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2014 at St. Joseph United Methodist Church, 6004 Reed Road with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at D. O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road.
