GLEN "JOE" FREEBURN, JR., 89, of Auburn, passed away Friday, June 20, 2014, at DeKalb Health in Auburn. Joe was born Dec. 8, 1924, in St. Joe, a son of Glen Freeburn Sr. and Emma (Wine-land) Freeburn. He was a 1942 graduate of St. Joe High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the military where he served for the United States Army during World War II. He married Bertha Maxine Keller on Dec. 19, 1964, in Garrett, and she passed away Oct. 25, 1988. He worked for Brooks Construction as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in December of 1988. He was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Joe. Surviving are his four sons, John (Judy) Leeper of Fort Wayne, Tom Leeper of Fort Wayne, Don (Brenda) Leeper of Fort Wayne, and Jerry (Sandy) Leeper of St. Joe; two daughters, Connie (Frank) Montes of Riverside, Calif., and Rose (Dan) Dickerhoof of Waterloo; 15 grandchildren, Chris Leeper, Tina McKenzie, Cory (Maria) Leeper, Tracy Leeper, Patty (Bill) Anderson, Todd (Carolyn) Leeper, Kim (Steve) Gillie, Nikki (John) Gillie, Tina (Ed) Holmes, Carol Montes, Frank Montes Jr., Darrin (Jennifer) Dickerhoof, Damian Dickerhoof, Clint (Jodi) Leeper, and Shane (Jamie) Leeper; 33 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Haverstock of Salt Lake City, Utah; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a grandchild, Tawnie Miller; two brothers, Richard Freeburn and Charles "Chuck" Freeburn; and a sister, Effiebell McCann. Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Feller & Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn. The Rev. Floyd A. Shoup officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery in St. Joe with military graveside honors conducted by the United States Army and American Legion Post 97 of Auburn.
