JOHN I. BRATTAIN, 87, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Signature Care Center. Born in Richmond, John was a Merchant Marine during World War II and in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a security officer at Bear Field for 20 years along with Watter & Millers Delivery for 20 years before retiring in 1989. Surviving are his wife, Kathern Brattain; children, Greg (Debbie) Brattain, Lance (Geralyn) Brattain, Eric (Claudia) Brattain, and April (Brian) Gray; stepchildren, William Tracey Jr., Eugene Tracey, Larry Tracey, Donavon (Twyla) Tracey, Vickie (Asam) Abid, Brenda (Steven) Anderson, Cynthia (Steven) Wolf, and Kathy Rowminds; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two nieces; and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Georgia; granddaughter, Alyssa Brattain; great-granddaughter, Jaylin Brattain; and sister, Katherine Bell. Service is 3 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at Mungovan & Sons Memorial Chapel, 2114 South Calhoun St., with calling one hour prior. Memorials may be made to the or the .
