DONALD E. SHIPE, 76, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, July 16, 2014. He was the son of the late Harry and Velma Shipe. Donald was a lab technician for Navistar, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He loved his grandchildren, fixing lawn mowers and volunteering his time. "He was a kind and generous man who loved people and knew no strangers." Surviving are his wife, Janice; children, Brad (Karen) Shipe of Union, Ky., Melanie (Mark) Schweyer of Fort Wayne and Karin (Randy) Stiens of Lexington, Ky.; grandchildren, Tyler, Corissa, Dustan, and Dexter Shipe, Kyle, Brandon, Hannah, Miriam, Olivia, Sarah, and ElleAna Schweyer, Megan and Alexis Ramey; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Cameron, Alexis Jade, and Zaiden; sisters and brothers, Crystal Mahoney of Yorktown, Jenovie (Dick) Bailey and Merritt Shipe, both of Florida, Berdenia Utrup of Delphos, Ohio, Barbara Horstman of Bluffton, Echo Kessler of Auburn, Gloria (Keith) Amstutz of New Haven, and Billy Shipe of Garrett. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Shipe; sister, Clytie Conner; and brother, Cleo Shipe. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3425 Crescent Ave., Fort Wayne (IN 46805), with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne (IN 46835). Preferred memorials to the church or Worship for Shut- Ins Lutheran Ministries Media, Inc. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens.
