RICHARD D. CARPENTER, 80, of Fort Wayne, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Englewood Health & Rehabilitation Center. He worked for 33 years at Peter Eckrich and retired in 2008 from Klink Trucking, Inc. after 22 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Meat Packer's Union, and will be remembered for his strong work ethic. He enjoyed working and his fellow employees, as well as playing cards, dancing, music, and most especially his family. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy "Dottie" (Sullivan) Carpenter; children, Theresa Teders, Erin, Hazelett, Michael Carpenter, and Carma (Charles) MacPherson, all of Fort Wayne, and Patrick (Amy) Carpenter of Churubusco; foster children, Thomacina Dohrman, Mary North, Chris Percy, and Lynette Bohnstedt; sister, Mary Sifuentes of Princeton, Texas; brothers, The Rev. Harry (Patricia) Carpenter of Montgomery, Texas., and Lester (Sharon) Carpenter of Onalaska, Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Oakes of Fort Wayne; 32 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cloid and Margaret (Ellingwood) Carpenter; sisters, Evelyn Bodle and Madaline Fusselman; brothers, Cloid and William Carpenter; and grandson, Richard Arthur Teders. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1101 S. Lafayette St., with calling from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Father Jeff Largent, the celebrant. Calling also from 2 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Holy Rosary recited at 8 p.m. Burial in Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco.
