GLADYS MARIE ALLEGER, 88, died on Thursday, July 23, 2014, at University Park Nursing Center, Fort Wayne, where she was a resident since 2011. Born Oct. 8, 1925, in Pierceton, Ind., she was a daughter of the late Gladys and Marvin Pate. She was active in 4-H while growing up in Union City, Ind., and was a 1942 graduate of P. R. Allen High School, Bluffton with General Studies and Speech Club. She attended DeForest Radio School in Chicago, Ill. and worked briefly for General Electric, in Fort Wayne. Marie married Paul Elsworth Alleger and celebrated 62 years of marriage on June 20, 2008. She was a homemaker raising three children. Marie said in her High School's 50th Reunion issue, that she "did some office work and then became a domestic engineer." She enjoyed sewing and making clothing for the family and other items for friends. After Paul retired, they traveled extensively with the Super Sixties including a trip to Hawaii. She is survived by daughter, Karen L. Koehler of Rogers, Ark.; son, Richard P. Alleger of Harleysville, Penn; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Alleger; son, Robert E. Alleger; and sisters, Eloise Sparaco and Betty Lou Pate. Service is 11 a.m. Sunday, July, 27, 2014, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Ave., with calling one hour prior. Chaplain Karen Kosburg officiating. Entombment in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Visiting Nurse Hospice.
