SOUNTHONE "SONNY" KENCHANH, as he was known to many, passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at home. He was born in Vientiane, Laos on Jan. 11, 1945. Dangerously escaping communist oppression in Laos and fleeing across the Mekong River to Thailand with his wife and three young boys is what eventually lead them to settle in Fort Wayne during the blizzard of 1978. He and his family became US citizens in 1988. Sonny was a kind-hearted, generous man. He would lend a helping hand to anyone, and when not working his day job, he would be found busy working at his farm, fixing cars or doing odd jobs. He was a loyal employee of past most recently retired from Tyson Fresh Meats. He will be greatly missed by so many. Surviving are his loving wife, Somvang "Sam" Kenchanh of Fort Wayne; three sons, Max, Matthew, and Mark; brothers and sisters; many nephews and nieces; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents; and a brother. Funeral Service is 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014 at D.O. McComb & Sons Foster Park Funeral Home, 6301 Fairfield Ave, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2014 at the funeral home.
