JAMES M. BAER, 77, of Garrett, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, 11:12 p.m., at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born July 6, 1927, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Ernest and Lucille Kissinger Baer Sr. He was a lifetime Fort Wayne resident until moving to Garrett in 1979. He worked in Machine Maintenance at Zollner, Fort Wayne, for 35 1/2 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the West Creighton Christian Church in Fort Wayne, Mizpah Shrine, Garrett Masonic Lodge, Garrett American Legion Post 178, and a lifetime member of American Legion Post 82 in Fort Wayne. He marked 57 years of marriage, July 11, 2004, to his wife, Carolyn A. Scott Baer. Surviving in addition to his wife of Garrett are sons, Ronald J. Baer of Garrett, Kevin M. Baer of Ormond Beach, Fla., Jan B. Baer of Auburn; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Crandall of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernest Baer Jr., William D. Baer; and sister, Maren Ferguson. Funeral Service is 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Thomas Funeral Home, Garrett, with military honors by Garrett American Legion and VFW at conclusion of service. Pastor Randy McQueen is officiating. Visitation is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial at a later date in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
