DEACON CLARENCE FIELDS SR., 84, of Fort Wayne, a loyal and faithful servant of the Lord went home on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011. Born Oct. 7, 1927, in Allendale, S.C., he was the third of 13 children and the son of Warren and Rosa Lee (Capers) Fields. He accepted the Lord at an early age and joined St. Mark Baptist Church. After relocating to Bradenton, Fla. in 1949, he joined the Gethsemane Baptist Church and began expressing his great love of the Lord in a gospel group with his siblings called the "Traveling Wonders". When he wasn't singing he was doing his second lovedriving as a long distance truck driver for Tropicana Juice Company. In 1964, he relocated to Fort Wayne to begin a cement contracting business with his cousin until he began his own business Fields Cement Contractors in 1969; a business which he ran hands on until he retired in 2002. He became a member of Friendship Baptist Church in 1965 and transferred his membership to Mount Calvary Baptist Church in 1972; where he was a deacon until his death. He loved the Lord and expressed his love through singing in his strong baritone voice with the Male Chorus and "The Chosen Wonders" which he was a member of for 21 years. "He was a man that was known for his friendliness, kind words and never meeting a stranger." On Jan. 6, 1968, he married Mary Pearson. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Mary Fields; seven sons, Clarence Fields Jr., David Fields, Carlton (Frenia) Fields, Robert (Bernice) Tubbs, Willie (Ann) Pearson, Vincent (Carmen) Pearson, and Virgil (Lisa) Pearson; six daughters, Areatha James, Janice Fields, Rosetta (Ronald) Barrett, Dorothy Reddick, Pernalla (Norman) Stewart, and Zenovia Pearson; brothers, Ernest Fields, Herbert (Louise) Fields and Nathan Fields; four sisters, Camille (Benjamin) Brown, Delores (R.B.) Watkins, Rosa Mae Peterson, and Annie Lou Singleton; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Carmichael Funeral Service. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Carmichael Funeral Service.
