NICHOLAS MARKOFF, 89, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Heritage Park Health Care Center, Fort Wayne. Born in Indianapolis, he grew up in Fort Wayne. A U.S. Army World War II veteran, he was wounded during the 'Battle of the Bulge' and was awarded the Purple Heart. He graduated from South Side High School and earned a B.S. Degree from Indiana Institute of Technology and then became a professional engineer. He worked as a mechanical engineer with Tokheim and various other companies for 35 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church and the choir and an active member of the Kiwanis Club. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Lois Markoff; son, Gregory Markoff of New Jersey; sister-in-law, Ann (William) Welsheimer of Orange City, Fla;. and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Florence Markoff. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with calling one hour prior. Pastor Richard Hartman officiating. Calling also from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2012, at the funeral home.
