BASIL K. BEAR, 88, passed away on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Parkview Hospital Randallia. He graduated from Hunter town High School in 1942, and retired in 1986 from General Electric after 43 years. A member of Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church, he volunteered with Anthony Wayne Boy Scouts of America for 39 years, receiving the coveted Silver Beaver award. He also volunteered with Limberlost Girl Scouts of America, as well as the Botanical Conservatory Gardens. He was active in the Lincoln Park Neighborhood Association, and assisted in the development of Lincoln Park. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Phyllis J. (Lott) Bear; children, Charna L. (Michael) Boren of LaGrange, Alicia A. (Douglas) Hill of Ossian, and Dr. Thomas E. (Susan) Bear of Evansville; grandchildren, Alanna M. Hill, Austin K. (Alishea) Hill, Ryan T. Bear, Tyler K. Bear, and Lauren M. Bear; and great-grandson, Ethan M. Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alpha Sherman and Alta Margurite (Johnston) Bear; and sisters, Marjorie A. Bear, in 1969, and Gretchen K. Yoder, in 1999. Service is 11 a.m. Friday in Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 6318 W. California Road, with calling one hour prior. Pastor William Mueller officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
